“My body of work combines figurative ceramic sculpture and narrative storytelling. I feel inspired by the desire to understand, transform and explore the social moments, personal experiences, and cultural shifts in our society. Sculpting in clay has been a way to actualize my thoughts, perspectives and experiences into a visual form.”

Jean C. Weil is a painter and ceramic sculptor who lives in Sacramento and Jackson California. She has been creating art for over 25 years focusing on narrative storytelling and documenting historical cultural experiences either through painting or sculpture.

She received her BA and MA from Sacramento State University graduating Magna Cum Laude. She is the recipient of numerous awards from organizations including Sacramento Fine Arts Center, Sacramento State University, and Valley Sculpture Artists.

She was an Artist in Residency at the La Meridiana International School of Ceramics in Tuscany Italy where she discovered new high fired glazing techniques on her large scale figurative forms. Her current creative interest in ceramics is exploring the marriage of sculpture with functional pieces emphasizing highly textual surfaces.
