About Us

Last updated: 3/14/2024

Arts of Bear Valley (AOBV) is an association of practicing artists and friends devoted to developing and promoting the visual arts in our mountain community.

AOBV was founded in 1990 by three artists living in and near Bear Valley. While the association was centered in Bear Valley during its early years it has expanded to include artists living in Calaveras and surrounding counties. Approximately 30 artists are currently members of AOBV. Our artists include painters who specialize in oils, watercolors, pastels, photographers and ceramics artists.

Artist Members exhibit and sell their art annually at Bear Valley for two weeks during the Bear Valley Music Festival. Artist Members, in conjunction with members of the Calaveras Arts Council organize and run the Professional Fine Arts and Photography exhibit at the Calaveras County Fair & Jumping Frog Jubilee each year. In 2024 we will also have an exhibition in downtown Murphys at the Native Daughters of the Golden West. These art shows are managed and operated by AOBV members. Please take a look at our Events tab for the scheduled dates for these shows this year.

Additionally, AOBV organizes and conducts programs each year to promote art for children in the effort to increase their appreciation and participation.

AOBV members, along with members of Golden Palette Art Association, and the Calaveras County Arts Council, donate their time to set up and run the professional artist exhibit at the Calaveras County Fair.

There are two levels of membership within AOBV; Artist Members are members who display their work in the art shows and Friends are members who support the association but do not display in the shows.
