Artist Gallery
Art has always played a major part of Joani's life. Born and raised in south Florida, she had her first gallery show experience at age eight when her charcoal drawing of a brown pelican was chosen for a special exhibit to hang in the Women's Museum of Miami Beach. Art projects and classes followed, all the way through high school. Her formal schooling included graduating with an AA degree in Fine Arts from Palm Beach Junior College in Lake Worth (1970) and a BA degree in Design (Interior Design through the College of Architecture) from the University of Florida in Gainesville (1973). By that time photography had become a major love. After working in design drafting for a year, she left Florida and moved to California. Joani has made her home in Calaveras County for 46 years. She did freelance work, married and had a family. Putting her art career "on hold" to raise her children, art was incorporated into everyday life. Now that her son and daughter are grown, it's "her turn." Going back to her tropical roots, and a short time of living on Maui, she works from her own travel photographs. Her introduction is with exotic florals. "I just want to honor the beauty I see in nature, with particular emphasis in the beginning with this innate passion I have for tropical flora and fauna." She joined Arts of Bear Valley in 2006 and launched her fine art career in 2007. After living near Bear Valley for 23 years, she now lives in Murphys with her husband, Tim Lyons.
