Each new painting
is a challenge. The ongoing learning experience is what motivates Anne.
As a self-taught painter she continues to discover new techniques and
use of light and color. Her subject matter ranges from realistic historic
buildings to more impressionistic gardens and landscapes. Her medium is
acrylic on canvas. Trained as a classical singer Anne performed professionally
and taught voice while raising her four children in northern California.
Upon moving to the Sierras in 1985 she took up painting as a new creative
outlet. The beautiful mountain landscape was her inspiration. She often
uses photographs taken during excursions into the high country to trigger
her imagination.
The Anne Saunders
Gallery in Jamestown, California opened in the late 1980's. Anne represented
several highly successful artists from the area. The gallery is still
in operation under different ownership. Anne's paintings are in collections
across the United States and in Europe. Her forest prints are featured
at Calaveras Big Trees State Park. She is in the process of publishing
a children’s book about the park.
