I am a portrait painter. I have such illustrious portraits under my belt as the esteemed opera conductor John Fiore, as commissioned by his late partner principal oboist with the SF ballet Orchestra Bill Banovetz. Mary Turnbull's commission of her late husband Herbert Beckman, Mary was the, book seller, literary champion, patron of the arts for 40 years, cofounder of the book depot and Café, in Mill Valley, her late husband, the publisher, and co-founder of the groundbreaking tides books store in Sausalito. Mary requested creating one more image from boxes of photos after her husband's passing.

I've been painting portraits, my whole life. As a child I sat on the floor of the Met drawing and appreciate the grandma Masters. Later at the Louve and in Florence I also had the privilege to sit and study. My first commission, a life-size charcoal of a husky dog that I created at 11, I hear still hangings on the dining room wall it was intended for. My first formal show was the Sausalito art festival at age 16, (since 1952 it has been recognized as one of America's premiere outdoor art festivals). As a student I was able to have two piece at the De Yong Museum. I had the good fortune to have taken a stone sculpting class at UCLA where I sculpted a bust. At Sonoma State I was able to take courses in art history from Susan Moulton, student of Thiebaud, where I hung on her every word and critique of my work.

I teach adult private portrait classes, and I have taught countless children's portrait classes, general art and Boy Scouts art badge requirements. As an art model I've had the great fortune of listening to Claudia Chaplin's and Harold Schwarm process. I have worked in Art sales for them and at the Malibu Gallery.

My mediums are, oils on canvas, oil, pastels quick gesture drawings, drawing inspired by Rembrandt's etching created from extract from walnut shells or Black ink on French linen paper, and I would love the opportunity to do addition life-size alabaster bust. I often donate my time to causes and paid venues, doing fast oil pastel sketches, the last was at a Bear Valley wedding at the top of the ski lift. The most portraits I've done at one time was 75 as a fundraiser at the boxcar Derby in Bear Valley California. I've been lucky enough to take archaeological illustration UCLA, and been able to illustrate archaeological finds in Israel, also volunteer in archaeology in France, and Tiburon, California. Prehistory is a passion because I've always loved muscles (tuberosities) and bones.

I do sittings, work from photographs, and have worked from photographs after death.

My fees are: Oil Portrait $750 a head, $150 per hand. My pen and inks are $250 + hands. And my quick oil sketches are $50, events are negotiated. Mileage is additional. I have done portraits of every age, a huge variety of pets, and even homes. My philosophy on portraiture: We are visual animals in a dense visual media age, we find what is important, what is repeated, a portrait in our home repeats in its' prominence what we hold most dear.
